From the summit of Cnoc Iochtarir, the view opens up to a breathtaking panorama: Lake Coomlougha and Lake Eagher look like blue gems nestled between the majestic peaks of Mount Carrauntoohil and Mount Caher. The water reflects the contours of the surrounding mountains, creating a play of light and shadow that changes with the passing clouds in the sky. Part of Killarney National Park, this area is a fusion of natural beauty and ancient stories. According to local legend, the lakes were created by the tears of a young girl crying for her lost lover, whose waters have become a symbol of eternal love and loss. On the right, the peak of Caher stands out clearly, while, hidden by the blanket of clouds, the peak of Carrauntoohil (1038 m), Ireland’s highest mountain, can be glimpsed through the clouds slowly descending towards the valley.
